Extracted Oregano Oil: In contrast, extracted oregano oil is derived from the oregano plant, known for its robust aroma and slightly spicy flavor. This oil is rich in diverse compounds, with the USDA's "Phytochemistry and Plant Ecology" database noting that oregano contains around 50 different compounds, over 30 of which possess antibacterial properties. The main constituents of oregano oil are phenolic compounds, including thymol, carvacrol, γ-terpinene, and p-isopropyltoluene. The specific composition of these compounds can vary based on factors like geographical location, the time of harvest, and the parts of the plant used.

Research has shown that the concentration of these key components in oregano oil is influenced by environmental factors, such as latitude and the growth stage of the plant. For instance, studies have indicated that the content of thymol peaks during certain months, reflecting the plant's growth cycle.
